First, let me clarify…..

This is my first horror novel I've read. Not being a genre I've read well…anything of - Suffice it to say this book has me looking for more books just like it! Andrew knocks this out of the park for a debut novel with his startling and clear descriptions of the violence and gore. A vividly described apocalyptic world where the sickening machinations of humanity have not dimmed. Religion plays a large part in this story, and it rings true and speaks on a topic that is heavily ignored in all walks of life - especially those in the LGBTQ+ community. Andrew does a fantastic job of giving readers a first-person view of the community's struggles in such a raw and realistic way.

The plot was done well, although I felt it lagged a bit in some spots and other portions I felt were unnecessary to the story, but as a debut novel, it speaks to this writer's talents and shows excellent potential for growth in the future. As mentioned before, religion plays a large part, and there was quite a bit of scripture writing. I, for one, have a very religious background, so I didn't mind this so much; however, I can see where this could be frustrating for some readers.

Benji is our MC, and he was written excitingly and realistically. I always had a clear picture of his thoughts and feelings, which really added to the story.

Overall, again I was not expecting to be captured by this book like I was. An excellent debut novel that is both horrifying, graphic, and poignant. The critical conversation regarding issues facing us as a whole made for, in my opinion, a very well-rounded book that I would recommend to any horror fan of any age.

Special thanks to TBR and Beyond Tours and the author for giving me the chance to review this novel! You can visit the author's website HERE.

That's it for today. I hope you have enjoyed this review!!!
